Hidden Prince is a true gem, just as many others have said. If you're into experimental free jazz and outstanding performances, grab it.
Fourteen-minute tracks, four in total, an incredible band fronted by one of the most amazing pop and funk artists to ever grace the planet. Extended jamming sessions, no hurry whatsoever. Each piece was captured live, and it's glaringly obvious. The audio is rich and inviting, making this album ideal for unwinding. This isn't the Prince we're all familiar with, this is Prince in full improvisational glory.
Four epic tracks, each clocking in at 14 minutes, showcasing an extraordinary band fronted by one of the most phenomenal pop and funk artists to ever grace the stage. I'd likely call this my top pick among Prince's EP works, even though it might not be his most celebrated. It features four instrumental tracks, each around 14 minutes long; I'm genuinely puzzled by any criticism. Those who compare this to Prince's Madhouse project will be in for an unexpected twist. This collection boasts a wider range of styles and genres than Madhouse's mostly jazz-focused instrumentation. Many reviews I've come across label this as self-indulgent, but I'd argue that if the music weren't so strong or the production so intricate, I might agree (I personally find most Madhouse tracks to be quite self-indulgent). However, this EP is a masterclass in composition, with each track offering something unique. It's not as if each piece remains static throughout its 14 minutes. They evolve and grow; take 'West', for example, which starts as a slow, ballad-like tune before suddenly transforming into a high-energy, hyper-stylized crescendo. If you haven't experienced NEWS yet, I'd recommend overlooking the talk about it being a poor seller and give it a listen to form your own opinion.
