I own both this one and the 2023 reissue, but the original is the clear winner. The reissue does have a better bass response, but it loses some of the funky nuances that are so prominent on this 1989 version. Plus, the original's packaging, with its glossy cover and superior photo quality, really stands out when compared.
Having never owned the initial LP, this new version is a perfect fit for me. The pressing is flat and incredibly quiet. My vinyl came in a thick paper inner sleeve with images, liner notes, and a ton of static. After gently taking the LP out, I cleaned it and moved it to a MoFi inner sleeve. The soundstage is excellent, and I'm thrilled to add this to my collection. Lastly, remember to clean the vinyl before playing it.
I've owned two pressings of this album, and both had a slight needle skip at the beginning of each side, but it's not a big deal. Aside from that, the record sounds fantastic, I've got no complaints about the audio quality at all.
This might just be one of Prince's finest albums. While it may not boast the chart-topping hits that everyone knows, every track here is fantastic. Since it's tied to the Batman film, it's often the subject of jokes and many dismiss it as a novelty rather than a genuine Prince album. But if you take the time to listen, tracks like The Future, Electric Chair, Party Man, Trust, and Lemon Crush are all brilliant and deserve another shot from any fan. Both the vinyl and CD versions offer great sound quality. My only gripe is that the bass could've been mixed a bit louder. And let's not forget, Batdance still rocks!
I absolutely love this album and got it on vinyl when it first came out all those years back. I've since picked up the CD version and have been enjoying it all over again. The funk tracks are super funky and the slower songs are incredibly well-crafted. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.
