Product description

Stanley Turrentine's "Mr. Natural" is a captivating journey into the world of soulful jazz, originally recorded in 1964 but released in 1980 as part of the LT Series. This album is a testament to Turrentine's mastery of the tenor saxophone, blending hard bop, cool jazz, and bebop with a soulful touch that makes it a standout in his discography. The five-track album, spanning a concise 39 minutes, features a mix of original compositions and covers, including the lively "Wahoo (aka Stanley's Blues)" and the tender ballad "My Girl Is Just Enough Woman For Me."

The album's title track, "Mr. Natural," sets the tone with its smooth grooves and Turrentine's expressive playing. "Shirley" and "Tacos" add a playful and upbeat vibe, showcasing the band's tight interplay and Turrentine's dynamic range. The Beatles' classic "Can't Buy Me Love" receives a jazzy makeover, highlighting Turrentine's versatility and the band's ability to infuse new life into familiar tunes.

Recorded for the Blue Note label, "Mr. Natural" is a prime example of Turrentine's ability to create music that is both accessible and sophisticated. The album's warm, inviting sound and Turrentine's soulful tenor saxophone make it a timeless addition to any jazz enthusiast's collection. Whether you're a longtime fan of Stanley Turrentine or a newcomer to his music, "Mr. Natural" offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.

This 2023 Reissue LP is housed in a gatefold, pressed on 180g vinyl.

  • Tone Poet Series Triumph

    5 out of 5 stars
    JeceyGwonv29December 18, 2025United States🇺🇸

Yet another fantastic addition to the Tone Poet series. This record has it all. The tracklist, the music, the performance, the recording, the mastering, the pressing, and the packaging are all top-notch. Don't miss out on this one, it'll sell out faster than you can say 'vinyl'.

  • Side A Shines Bright

    4 out of 5 stars
    ubvtphflOctober 19, 2025United States🇺🇸

This album sounds absolutely amazing! I'm in agreement with the other feedback: Side A is out of this world. And wow, just look at the lineup: Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Lee Morgan...this recording was packed with talent. Update: I rated this album four stars because side B isn't quite as exciting. I would've loved to hear something original instead of the Beatles cover. That's just my personal taste, though.

  • Stanley Turrentine's Best Session

    5 out of 5 stars
    neqvdxoowSeptember 6, 2025United States🇺🇸

Fantastic album with a superb pressing. The stereo imaging is spot on. It's incredibly wide and deep. The dynamics and details are just outstanding. A truly enjoyable listening experience. This might just be my top Stanley Turrentine session ever. Kudos to BN and KG for a job well done!

  • 1980 Sessions Shine

    5 out of 5 stars
    ixacvuifhniqyonSeptember 1, 2025United States🇺🇸

I'm utterly baffled as to why these sessions took until 1980 to see the light of day! They're absolutely fantastic. The musicianship is top-notch, the sound quality is superb, and the overall experience is simply superb. Side A by itself is worth every penny spent 😎
