Product description

Nick Millevoi's "Midtown Tilt" is a captivating journey through the realms of jazz and beyond, released on March 9, 2018, under the Shhpuma label. This 41-minute album is a testament to Millevoi's versatility and his ability to blend various influences into a cohesive and engaging soundscape.

Collaborating with the Desertion Trio, featuring Jamie Saft, Johnny DeBlase, Kevin Shea, and Ashley Tini, Millevoi crafts a sonic experience that is as much about texture and atmosphere as it is about melody and rhythm. The album opens with "Midtown Tilt," setting the stage for a journey that is both introspective and dynamic. Tracks like "It's a Hard World for Little Things" and "Numbers Maker" showcase the band's ability to weave intricate compositions that are rich in detail and nuance.

Millevoi's guitar work is reminiscent of a Spaghetti Western soundtrack, evoking the dusty tones and cinematic qualities that have become a hallmark of his style. The album's title track, "Midtown Tilt," is a standout, highlighting the band's ability to create a sense of urgency and tension that keeps the listener on the edge of their seat.

Throughout the album, the Desertion Trio and Jamie Saft bring a cascade of influences and cadences that keep the music fresh and engaging. Kevin Shea's drumming is particularly noteworthy, providing a solid groove that allows the melody to take center stage. The result is an album that is both accessible and challenging, offering something for both casual listeners and hardcore jazz enthusiasts.

"Midtown Tilt" is a testament to Nick Millevoi's artistry and his ability to push the boundaries of jazz. With its rich textures, intricate compositions, and dynamic performances, this album is a must-listen for anyone looking to explore the outer reaches of contemporary jazz.
