Product description

Nick Millevoi's "Desertion" is a captivating journey through the realms of experimental and avant-garde jazz, released on May 13, 2016, under the Shhpuma label. Clocking in at 41 minutes, this album is a testament to Millevoi's innovative guitar work and his ability to blend genres seamlessly. The quartet, featuring Jamie Saft on Hammond organ and piano, Johnny DeBlase on electric and upright basses, and Ches Smith, delivers a unique sound that is both intricate and engaging.

The album opens with "Desertion and the Arsonist's Match," a track that sets the tone for the rest of the record, drawing comparisons to the raw energy of Neil Young. Each subsequent track, from "Just for a Moment, I Stood There in Silence" to "The Fire That Partially Damaged City Hall," showcases Millevoi's prowess as a guitarist and composer. The music is unpredictable yet cohesive, with each piece offering a fresh perspective on the genre.

"Desertion" is not just an album but a collection of moments that highlight Millevoi's growth and experimentation. The interplay between the instruments is masterful, with each member of the quartet contributing to a sound that is both familiar and groundbreaking. Whether you're a seasoned jazz enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Desertion" offers a listening experience that is as thought-provoking as it is enjoyable.
