By the time I purchased this for the first time, I'd already been lured into the dark digital realm, making side-by-side comparisons a bit tougher for reissues like this one. However, I've noticed that mid-80s pressings tend to be around 10+dB louder than these recent re-releases. But it's flat, clean, and quiet—just crank it up, it's Rock & Roll, isn't it?
Incredible pressing! Fidelity is MASSIVE and three-dimensional, with midrange clarity and detail that's truly impressive. The bass? It punches you right in the chest! Guitars are sharp and aggressive, while the soundstage creates a live, in-the-same-room experience. I'm telling you, this is phenomenal. I've never had this on a US pressing, but a few tracks appear on the SINGLES double LP, and they sound...muted. Lifeless. Not here! This pressing brings the music to life with a perfect, aggressive balance. Go hunt this one down. [Tech specs in my profile].
Great pressing and awesome packaging; Vinyl180 really nailed this one. The whole album's got a sweet, full sound and a killer bass.
To me, the sound quality is excellent, even though I don't have much else to compare it to besides Apple Music. It's quite subtle, with nothing overbearing, so you can tweak the EQ to your liking. The vocals are just a tad too soft and a bit behind the drums, but that might just be how it was mastered. No issues here, and I must say, the red color is gorgeous.
Absolutely fantastic box set! The extra CDs are brilliant. That 'Singles' disc with the extended tracks and b-sides such as The Snake, Judith, or Sunrise feels like a more immersive take on the album, and the third disc with the demos is pretty neat too. I'd say the songs lean more towards a goth rock/post punk feel compared to the final versions.
