Guamba - Gary Peacock

Product description

"Guamba," released in September 1987 on ECM Records, is a captivating jazz album led by the renowned American bassist Gary Peacock. This album features a stellar lineup of musicians, including saxophonist Jan Garbarek, trumpeter Palle Mikkelborg, and drummer Peter Erskine, all of whom contribute to a rich and dynamic sound.

Recorded at the iconic Rainbow Studio in Oslo, Norway, in March 1987, "Guamba" showcases Gary Peacock's distinctive bass playing, which serves as a lead voice throughout the album. The title track, "Guamba," opens with a solo performance by Peacock, setting the tone for the rest of the record. The album's seven tracks, including "Requiem," "Celina," and "Gardenia," span a duration of approximately 44 minutes, offering a blend of post-bop and avant-garde jazz styles.

The collaboration between these esteemed musicians results in a cohesive and engaging listening experience. Jan Garbarek's saxophone work is particularly noteworthy, with his magisterial power adding depth and intensity to the compositions. Palle Mikkelborg's trumpet and flugelhorn contributions, along with Peter Erskine's drumming, provide a solid rhythmic foundation and melodic flourishes that complement Peacock's bass lines beautifully.

"Guamba" is a testament to the artistic vision of Gary Peacock and his collaborators, making it a standout release in the jazz genre. The album's intricate compositions and masterful performances make it a timeless addition to any jazz enthusiast's collection.

This LP was released in 1987.
