Product description

Dive into the world of jazz with Gary Peacock's latest offering, "Short Cuts," a captivating exploration of free jazz released on May 17, 2024, under the Postcards Records label. This concise yet powerful album spans just 23 minutes, featuring eight tracks that showcase Peacock's mastery of the bass alongside the eclectic guitar work of Bill Frisell.

"Short Cuts" is a collection of reimagined themes and solos, drawing from Peacock and Frisell's rich musical history. The album kicks off with a reworking of "Good Morning Heartache," featuring Peacock's signature bass solo and Frisell's distinctive guitar. The duo delves into the intricate layers of "N.O.M.B.," with Frisell's guitar taking center stage in one of the tracks. The album concludes with the title track "Just So Happens," a testament to the duo's musical synergy.

Produced by Bob Karcy and Ralph Simon, "Short Cuts" benefits from the expertise of longtime collaborators Johnathan Blake on drums and Greg Tardy on saxophone and clarinet. The album is a testament to Peacock and Frisell's ability to blend improvisation with structured composition, resulting in a unique and engaging listening experience. Whether you're a longtime fan of jazz or a newcomer to the genre, "Short Cuts" offers a compelling introduction to the world of Gary Peacock and Bill Frisell.

About Gary Peacock

Gary Peacock, born in 1935, was a renowned American jazz double bassist whose subtle yet adventurous style left an indelible mark on the genre. Beginning his career in the 1960s, Peacock's versatility and creative prowess made him an invaluable member of various significant ensembles. He was a key figure in Keith Jarrett’s legendary "Standards Trio," alongside drummer Jack DeJohnette, with whom he recorded over twenty albums and performed for more than three decades. Peacock's ability to provide graceful support was evident in his collaborations with other jazz luminaries such as Albert Ayler, Bill Evans, Paul Bley, and Marilyn Crispell.
