Product description

"Just So Happens," the final studio album from legendary jazz bassist Gary Peacock, is a testament to his enduring legacy and musical prowess. Released posthumously in May 2021, this album is a captivating blend of jazz and free jazz, showcasing Peacock's deep musical intuition and his unique ability to push the boundaries of the genre. The album features the celebrated bassist in a fascinating duo with eclectic guitarist Bill Frisell, a collaboration that highlights the uncanny empathy between the two musicians.

Recorded over two days in February 1994 at the iconic Electric Lady Studios in New York City, "Just So Happens" is a collection of 11 tracks that span a little over 51 minutes. The album opens with "Only Now," setting the tone for the introspective and exploratory journey that follows. Each track, from the whimsical "Wapitis Dream" to the poignant "Good Morning Heartache," offers a glimpse into the rich musical dialogue between Peacock and Frisell. The album also includes reinterpretations of classic songs like "Home On the Range" and "Red River Valley," demonstrating the duo's ability to infuse new life into familiar melodies.

Gary Peacock, who passed away in September 2020 at the age of 85, was a pioneering figure in the world of jazz. His extensive discography includes a dozen albums under his own name, and he was known for his innovative approach to the double bass. "Just So Happens" is a fitting tribute to his career, capturing the essence of his musical philosophy and his commitment to exploring the depths of jazz.

The album is released on the Postcards Records label, a fitting home for this intimate and deeply personal collection of music. Whether you're a longtime fan of Gary Peacock or a newcomer to his work, "Just So Happens" is an essential addition to any jazz enthusiast's collection. The album's unique blend of jazz and free jazz, coupled with the masterful interplay between Peacock and Frisell, makes it a standout release in the genre.
