Awesome album. It might not be 'Audiophile' quality, but it certainly sounds great. If your a John Lee Hooker enthusiast, don’t think twice. Speakers Corner is offering a very reasonable price for there records. The ultra thin cardboard outer sleeve is a bit ‘JB-HIFI’ though.
Well, well...this is some raw, unfiltered John Lee we've got here. Anyone else thinkin' it might be mono? Feels like the soundstage is stuck right in the middle for me...
The album ought to clearly mention that it's not Hi-Fi. The recording setup must've been far from ideal, but if that's your thing, that's cool. I gotta say, it's the poorest sounding John Lee I've ever heard. Not for me at $42 brand new. No hate, just sharing my thoughts.
I'm unsure if this is a re-release or not. My copy has the same cover but with a white fan and purple label.
This record is an absolute treasure. It's quite raw and that gives it a very straightforward sound that I'm really fond of. The audio quality is held back by the tech of the original recordings (from 1953 and 1961) but, given that, this is a fantastic pressing. My copy is smooth and quiet except for the hiss from the original tape. A really good pressing of a fantastic album.
