Product description

John Lee Hooker's 1995 album, Chill Out, is a masterful blend of blues, classic blues, blues rock, soul blues, country blues, and jazz blues, showcasing the legendary musician's enduring talent. Featuring an impressive array of guest artists, including Van Morrison, Carlos Santana, Charles Brown, and Booker T. Jones, this album is a testament to Hooker's ability to collaborate and create something truly special.

Produced by Roy Rogers, Santana, and Hooker himself, with executive production by Mike Kappus, Chill Out boasts a rich and diverse sound. The album's 14 tracks, including the title track 'Chill Out (Things Gonna Change)' and 'Serves Me Right to Suffer / Syndicator', demonstrate Hooker's unique ability to craft songs that are both deeply personal and universally relatable.

With a duration of 1 hour and 1 minute, Chill Out is an album that will keep you engaged from start to finish. From the opening notes of the title track, featuring Carlos Santana, to the final notes of 'Fire Down Below', Hooker's distinctive voice and guitar work are on full display. The album's mix of solo performances and collaborations adds depth and variety, making it one of Hooker's finest recordings of the 1990s.

Released on 21 February 1995 via BMG Rights Management (US) LLC, Chill Out has become a beloved classic among blues fans. John Lee Hooker's legacy as the 'King of the Boogie' is cemented on this album, which balances guitar-driven tracks with profoundly deep solo performances. Whether you're a longtime fan of John Lee Hooker or just discovering his music, Chill Out is an essential listen that showcases the artist's incredible talent and enduring influence.

  • Misattributed Piano Performance

In "Down So Low," it's clearly not Johnnie Johnson playing the piano, despite what the booklet says. The style doesn't match his at all, and it's not Charles Brown either. It must be some session musician.

Anyone know if they're planning to re-release this? It's ridiculously pricey ;)
