Bright Sheng: Let Fly, Zodiac Tales & Suzhou Overture - Bright Sheng

Product description

Bright Sheng's "Let Fly, Zodiac Tales & Suzhou Overture" is a captivating collection of three orchestral works that showcase the composer's unique blend of traditional Chinese influences and contemporary classical music. Released on February 12, 2021, under the Naxos label, this album spans a total of 1 hour and 7 minutes, featuring the Shanghai and Suzhou Symphony Orchestras conducted by Sheng himself.

The album opens with "Let Fly," a dynamic and evocative piece that sets the tone for the rest of the collection. The centerpiece of the album is "Zodiac Tales (2016 Version)," a six-movement suite inspired by the Chinese zodiac. Each movement tells a story based on a different zodiac animal, from the gentle "Three Lambs Under the Spring Sun" to the majestic "The Flying Horses." The album concludes with "Suzhou Overture," a vibrant celebration of the city of Suzhou's rich cultural heritage, where traditional nostalgia meets modern rhythms.

Bright Sheng's compositional style is deeply rooted in his Chinese heritage, yet it transcends cultural boundaries, offering a universal appeal. His works are known for their intricate textures, rich harmonies, and evocative storytelling, all of which are on full display in this album. Whether you're a fan of classical music or simply looking to explore new sounds, "Let Fly, Zodiac Tales & Suzhou Overture" is a compelling addition to any music collection.
