Product description

Bicycles & Tricycles, the sixth studio album by The Orb, is a captivating journey through the realms of electronic music, released in 2004 via Cooking Vinyl. Spanning a duration of one hour and three minutes, this 12-track album seamlessly blends genres such as IDM, ambient, dub, and progressive breaks, offering a rich and diverse sonic experience. The Orb, known for their innovative approach to electronic music, delivers a collection of tracks that are as thought-provoking as they are danceable.

The album kicks off with "Orb Is - Shopping Version," setting the tone for the eclectic mix that follows. Standout tracks like "Aftermath" and "The Land of Green Ginger" showcase The Orb's signature sound, while "Hell's Kitchen" and "Gee Strings" add a touch of retro house to the mix. The album also features collaborations, with MC Shoom T joining The Orb on "Aftermath."

Tracks like "Tower Twenty Three - Spud 'V' Kreature Mix" and "Kompania - The Grooved Ware Mix" highlight The Orb's ability to push the boundaries of electronic music. The album's final track, "Dilmun," brings the journey to a close with a sense of introspection and calm.

Whether you're a long-time fan of The Orb or a newcomer to their music, Bicycles & Tricycles offers a compelling listen. • Orb's Eclectic, Enjoyable Journey

    4 out of 5 stars
    ziqesjnufqoqkapmJanuary 9, 2026United States🇺🇸

The Orb's latest album showcases a diverse range of tracks, with Alex Paterson teaming up with Simon Phillips and Thomas Fehlmann. While not every song is a standout Orb classic, the album as a whole is quite enjoyable. The album kicks off beautifully with "Orb is (shopping version)," drawing you into The Orb's unique world of quirky melodies and eccentric samples. The second track features vocals, which isn't my favorite, but it's still pleasant to listen to. Track 3 continues the vibe of the first with its peculiar samples. Track 5 could have easily fit into their later album "Okie Dokie." Track 11 introduces a reggae dub element, but for me, the real highlight is track 11. It's a fantastic piece of dark, cosmic ambient music that I absolutely adore! The final track was also included in Wolfgang Voigt's "Pop ambient 2003" compilation, showing a connection to Kompakt.

  • Orb's Diverse Cosmic Journey

The Orb's album offers a diverse range of tracks. This time, Mister Paterson collaborates with Simon Phillips and Thomas Fehlmann. Not every song is a classic Orb piece, yet overall, it's a solid album. The delightful opener, 'Orb is (shopping version),' welcomes you into their unique world, filled with twisted melodies and quirky samples. The second track features vocals and isn't entirely to my taste, but it's still enjoyable. Track 3 continues the vibe of the first with its peculiar samples. Track 5 could have easily fit into the 'Okie Dokie' album released the following year. Track 11 brings a reggae dub influence to the mix. For me, though, the standout track is number 11—dark, cosmic ambient brilliance! The final track was included in Wolfgang Voigt's 'Pop ambient 2003' compilation, showing a connection to Kompakt.

  • Orb's Inconsistent Yet Charming

    3 out of 5 stars
    rgeehs-tDecember 7, 2025United States🇺🇸

This isn't quite a full Orb masterpiece in my book. There's a fair number of tracks that lean too much on the beats and feel a bit unoriginal, and some of the vocal bits aren't really my cup of tea. But there's still plenty of top-notch soundscapes here that made me want to grab a pristine used vinyl copy. Fehlmann's "Gee Strings" is a gorgeous piece of smooth dub-techno vibes that hits the spot for me post Sun Electric. Tower Twenty Three is a stellar dub remix that fits right in with the latest Orbservatory tracks, and the entire side 4 is an ambient delight, reminiscent of the early Orb days. The Land of Green Ginger has a charming, lighthearted feel. It's a definite step up from the rather bland and poppy Cydonia.

  • Orb's Mixed but Brilliant

    3 out of 5 stars

This one didn't quite hit the mark as a full Orb masterpiece for me, to be honest. There's a bit too much emphasis on beats that feel a tad recycled, and I'm not entirely sold on some of the vocal additions. That said, there's still plenty of that signature Orb brilliance here, convincing me to grab a pristine second-hand vinyl copy. Fehlmann's "Gee Strings" is a gorgeous slice of smooth dub-techno vibes, perfect for me after Sun Electric. Tower Twenty Three is a stellar dub remix that fits right in with the latest Orbservatory tracks, and the entire side 4 is an ambient delight, reminiscent of the early Orb days. The Land of Green Ginger has a charming, lighthearted touch. It's a definite step up from the disappointingly bland and poppy Cydonia.
