The music on this album and Exile is fantastic. The sound quality is excellent, and the pressing is quiet. I'm thrilled that these are available on vinyl. It's sure to exceed your expectations.
After getting into Randy Newman (and checking out Christgau’s takes on him), you’ll be well-prepped to appreciate Liz Phair’s dry delivery, her knack for storytelling in just a few lines, and her seemingly straightforward rhymes that pack a punch. On this album, she lets her producers experiment with different genres—think rockabilly on “Baby Got Going,” soulful ballads in “Only Son,” and a Led Zeppelin vibe on the title track. As for Liz, she delivers mostly solid tracks, some even catchy, though none are quite hits. Many songs focus on other people or characters, showcasing her empathy and creativity, while the ones that seem personal paint her as endearingly shy and humble. It’s also inspiring to consider that someone who only started playing guitar at 24 (and just happened to know some key folks in the music biz) could create an album this impressive.
Solid pressing. Lovely swirls. Awesome records. Really digging her debut, forgot how many bangers are on this one too. After this album, things get a bit fuzzy...
Fantastic package all around, both records are super flat and quiet, and the pressing is truly amazing.
I'll join the chorus of compliments. There's not a hint of noise between songs.
