Product Description

Liz Phair's self-titled album, released on January 1, 2003, under Capitol Records, is a compelling collection of 14 tracks that span a total of 50 minutes. This album showcases Liz Phair's signature blend of raw emotion and catchy melodies, with a sound that seamlessly bridges alternative rock and pop sensibilities. From the energetic opener "Extraordinary" to the reflective closer "Good Love Never Dies," Phair explores themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery with her characteristic wit and honesty. Standout tracks like "Red Light Fever" and "Why Can't I?" highlight her ability to craft infectious hooks, while more intimate songs such as "It's Sweet" and "H.W.C." reveal her depth as a songwriter. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to Liz Phair's music, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.

This is a 2019 Limited Edition Reissue released as a 2LP set.

  • Affordable High-Quality Pressing

    5 out of 5 stars
    wpuikaqbmaogif12 October 2025United States🇺🇸

Truly amazing pressing, considering the low price. Sound quality is top-notch with no issues to speak of. The gatefold cover is a nice touch and the two middle weight LPs are well made. My side 4 had a couple of marks from the factory, but they didn't impact the sound. Absolutely worth getting if this album is one of your favorites you love to hide.

  • Mispressed but decent sound

    5 out of 5 stars
    MKT10211 March 2025United States🇺🇸

Watch out... Both times I bought this album, sides 2 and 4 were mispressed, so if you want to play them without your tonearm jumping around, you gotta let the record float freely and forget about the hole's position, adjusting the center to match the pressing instead of the record's hole or edge. Apart from that, the sound quality was decent.

  • Phair's Bold Reinvention

    4 out of 5 stars
    Gihogediojizih26 January 2024United States🇺🇸

Liz Phair, a pioneer of the riot grrl movement, ventured away from her signature lo-fi style with her fourth album, this self-titled effort, yet retained her characteristic anxious and heartfelt emotions. Initially, the response was less than favorable, with numerous critics labeling her a sellout (Phair herself admitted she aimed to boost her music-related income). And she succeeded—tracks from this album found their way into various rom-coms and television shows. However, revisiting this album nearly two decades post-release, many critics now applaud Phair for her courage to innovate musically. Songs like Extraordinary and Why Can't I? might be more refined, but they still carry Phair's unmistakable touch. Need proof that Phair never lost her edge? Just give H.W.C. a listen and try to call her a sellout. While Exile in Guyville and Whip-Smart remain her magnum opus, there's certainly space for this album in any fan's collection. It's an enjoyable listen and evidently inspired the next wave of riot grrls. As for the record itself, it's a decent, solid pressing, though not extraordinary. The production might be to blame for the generally flat mix, lacking in dynamics. But the soundstage is clean, with clear vocals and instrumentation. The color vinyl is a nice touch too. Maybe it's time for you to give this one another spin!
