Product Description

Colin Stetson, renowned for his avant-garde approach to instrumental music, presents his latest masterpiece, "When We Were That What Wept for the Sea," set to release on May 12, 2023, under the independent label 52Hz. This album is a testament to Stetson's unique ability to blend raw, visceral sounds with hauntingly beautiful melodies, all performed on a variety of wind instruments.

Spanning over 70 minutes, the album is a journey through 13 tracks, each a sonic landscape that builds upon the last. The album opens with "The Lighthouse I" and closes with "Safe with Me," framing the experience with a sense of completeness and resolution. Stetson's signature extended techniques and circular breathing are on full display, creating a dense, immersive soundscape that is as challenging as it is rewarding.

The title track, "When We Were That What Wept for the Sea," is a standout, showcasing Stetson's ability to evoke deep emotion through his music. Other highlights include "Infliction," a frenetic display of technical prowess, and "Fireflies," a more subdued, introspective piece that highlights Stetson's melodic sensibilities.

"When We Were That What Wept for the Sea" is not just an album, but a testament to Colin Stetson's artistry and his continued evolution as a musician. It's a challenging listen, but one that rewards patience and attention with a rich, immersive experience. Fans of experimental music and wind instruments will find much to love here, and newcomers will be introduced to a unique and powerful voice in contemporary instrumental music.

This 2LP set is pressed on White vinyl.
