This isn't the top-tier sounding album in my collection, but it's not terrible either. There's some noticeable background noise and I can see why people say it's "muddy". All in all, it's alright.
This album shouldn't have won any Grammys. It only reached as high as number 84 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. Now that it's got awards, it'll probably chart higher because Americans follow the crowd. They assume if something wins awards, it must be good or better than albums that don't, which isn't always true. I find this album tough to listen to - it's like terrible R&B mixed with even worse gospel music. Most of today's soul and R&B is pretty awful, very boring. I'll take old-school soul any day over modern stuff, like Al Green, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, and the rest.
Gorgeous to look at and listen to - adored this album before, but this version truly takes it to the next level!!
This pressing isn't the greatest. I had to look at my needle a few times to make sure it was alright. But hey, the music still sounds great.
This album is absolutely incredible, packed with a wide range of styles that even brings to mind 'Awaken My Love' by Childish Gambino. But this particular pressing? It's truly disappointing, especially when you consider it's from Verve. Their 'vital vinyl' pressings are always phenomenal, and I can't wrap my head around how there can be such a massive difference in quality. This one sounds flat, squashed, murky, and by the end of the groove, it's downright warped. What a letdown for such a fantastic album.
