During the 70's, a number of renowned B3 organ players, including McGriff, took a hiatus from the organ and explored other instruments. On this album, he delves into the Fender Rhodes, synthesizers, and Clavinet. The ensemble is quite large, featuring strings and brass sections, resulting in a polished production. There are some great rhythms here - Joe Thomas' flute work on "Please Don't Take Me Out" is superb, and a funky rendition of The Beatles' "Get Back" is particularly groovy. The sound quality of this pressing is excellent, with the bass standing out, although it might be a tad too bright, but that's an easy fix. My copy is in top-notch condition, thanks VK.
Absolutely fantastic album! It's among Jimmy McGriff's best and definitely one of my top jazz-funk records ever.

Most of McGriff's Groove Merchant records are just okay, but this one's a standout. With Bob Babbitt on bass, you gotta know it's gonna be funky!
