Don't doubt the buzz. Initially, I was a tad disappointed by the scuffs and minor scratches on this OneStep upon arrival (there's a hint of permanent surface noise post-cleaning... similar thing occurred with my Dr. Dre - the Chronic DSS). The hassle to return it and wait for a replacement in Canada would be tremendous, so I opted to step out of Karen-mode and just embrace it. The sound quality for this Nat King Cole OneStep is phenomenal and absolutely deserving of the praise, much like the Steve Hoffman/Kevin Gray Analogue Productions Nat King Cole Series. This record will be treasured and enjoyed year after year in my family. To immerse myself in this beautiful Christmas music more than ever before was well worth the extra cost. The clarity of the backup vocals and orchestrations is astonishing, and Nat's voice, devoid of the heavy reverb, is initially startling with its intimacy and immediacy. The same 'he's in the room right over there' quality to Nat's vocals that the Analogue Productions series had. Considering the festive nature of the songs and the added intimacy of the performances with this superb mastering, I was overwhelmed with nostalgic Christmas feelings... it was like a comforting hug and a warm cup of cocoa on my first listen. Highly recommended!
Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song" has forever held a special place in my heart as one of my most treasured Christmas albums. I can vividly recall the first time I heard the tracks as a young child, how his voice came across as warm, soothing, and oddly comforting to my 11-year-old mind. Any teenage worries I had would simply vanish as I immersed myself in his voice. Decades later, that same feeling came rushing back with incredible intensity when I first played this new One-Step pressing. I've never experienced Nat's voice with such clarity, spaciousness, and depth as on this new record. It's as if his vocal performance has its own dedicated stage, completely surrounding you, no matter the pitch, tone, or strength. Whether he's delivering a soft croon or a powerful belt, his presence is overwhelmingly captivating. What I admire most about the mastering is how Nat and his heavenly voice take center stage, with Chris Bellman expertly placing them front and center. That's not to say the rest of the music is overlooked. The beautiful orchestral arrangements sound as good, if not better, than ever, perfectly complementing Nat's outstanding vocal performance. There's plenty of instrumental detail to appreciate when you're not completely mesmerized by his voice. Additionally, the super-quiet, perfectly flat RTI pressing maintains a steady, black background, keeping distracting surface noise at bay. Lastly, the packaging is of the high quality we've come to expect from One-Step boxes, although I'm still not fond of the unnecessary cover sleeve. It's just one more thing I have to deal with before I can enjoy the music. I might be in the minority here, but I'd prefer One-Steps to skip these silly covers altogether. All we really need is a high-quality gatefold, and maybe the label could save a few dollars on the price? Just a thought. Setting that minor complaint aside, this disc was exactly what I hoped for when I placed my order last month. I don't mind paying premium prices for One-Step releases as long as they justify their cost in a competitive market filled with cheaper options. To me and my ears, this one does just that, and now I have the ultimate version of this album to enjoy for years to come.
I absolutely love Holiday albums, so picking this up was an easy decision. The sound quality is stunning, there's not a single crackle or pop, and the packaging is simply gorgeous. It's a fantastic addition to your holiday collection. I'd definitely recommend it.
This appears to be absolutely amazing! I need to type 10 more words now
Incredible pressing that really impressed me. Superior quality, 180g, clear sound and quiet surface.
