Once again, Roxy delivers an incredible sounding LP, this time with a wide, rich CinemaScope sound. It's a bit eerie, deep & resonant, but it works perfectly. Sounds fantastic when cranked up LOUD
In my opinion, "Stranded" might just be the finest Roxy Music album ever recorded. It's a marvel of musical diversity that somehow remains cohesive, and the production is so top-notch that it all comes together beautifully. In fact, it's so well-crafted that even the 1999 HDCD remaster sounds fantastic. So, what does this SACD bring to the table that the CD doesn't? Mostly more of the same, but in an even better package. While I'd be content with the CD, this SACD offers the usual benefits of a well-done SACD: a wider and deeper soundstage, a silkier high end, and a sense of higher resolution combined with a relaxing, organic flow that most CDs just can't match. It's the kind of sound quality that makes well-mastered vinyl so praised. The best part? You don't need a high-end setup for this sonic bliss. You DO need an SACD player that can handle DSD natively, preferably. One of my favorite SACDs, though I'll admit that the 1999 HDCD mastering is also a favorite of mine, so this one is more of a luxury than a necessity.
Audio quality is fantastic! The way it presents the sound stage is impressive. The bass, mids, and highs are all clear and well-defined. Highly recommend, 9/10.
Got this as a Christmas present from my brother-in-law, absolutely love it! The audio quality is fantastic, the pressing is super quiet, and the sound is incredibly detailed and dynamic. I'm thrilled with it!
I must say, this Polydor reissue turned out to sound way better than I had expected.
