Product Description

Dive into the raw, unfiltered energy of punk's rebellious era with the Sex Pistols' "Spunk," a raw and unpolished collection of tracks that capture the essence of the band's anarchic spirit. Released on January 1, 1977, under Sanctuary Records, this album is a time capsule of the punk movement, featuring a blend of proto-punk and punk genres that defined a generation.

"Spunk" is not just an album; it's a snapshot of a cultural revolution. The tracklist includes iconic songs like "Anarchy in the U.K." and "No Future (God Save the Queen)," which became anthems of rebellion and defiance. The album also features lesser-known gems and early demos, such as "Anarchy In the UK (Denmark Street Demo, July 1976)" and "Pretty Vacant (Denmark Street Demo, July 1976)," offering a unique glimpse into the band's creative process.

With a runtime of 56 minutes, "Spunk" is a relentless journey through the Sex Pistols' early works, showcasing their raw talent and unapologetic attitude. From the chaotic energy of "Nookie (Anarchy In the U.K.)" to the introspective moments of "Just Me (I Wanna Be Me)," the album is a testament to the band's versatility and impact on the music scene. Whether you're a long-time fan or a newcomer to the punk genre, "Spunk" is an essential addition to any music collection, offering a raw and authentic experience that captures the spirit of a revolutionary time.

This is a 2024 Reissue released as a LP.

  • Pistols Demos: Raw and Essential

    4 out of 5 stars
    Jpekq7927 June 2025United States🇺🇸

If you were a Sex Pistols enthusiast back in the late '80s or early '90s, chances are you've come across these demo tracks, as Restless Records kept re-releasing them under various titles such as "The Mini Album" and "The Swindle Continues." For those who haven't, it's worth giving them a listen, as they're a crucial part of the band's history, and even their manager, Malcolm McLaren, favored these recordings over "Never Mind the Bollocks." Of course, being demos, they don't quite match the studio quality of the Sex Pistols' only official album, but some tracks have a rawness and energy that "Bollocks" doesn't quite capture. My top pick is 'I Wanna Be Me,' which got a slight remix when it was released as the B-side to 'Anarchy in the UK,' their debut single. Also, take note of the bass fills and backing vocals on 'Problems' and 'Pretty Vacant': these subtle details, which I've always appreciated, were dropped after Glen Matlock, the original bassist and main songwriter, left the band. In my view, this was a misstep, and the versions on "Bollocks" don't showcase the musical depth the Pistols were capable of. "Spunk" also offers a more authentic representation of the band's live sound (you can check this out for yourself by listening to "The Original Pistols Live"). If you're settling in with Jon Savage's "England's Dreaming," these demos make for an ideal soundtrack.

  • Check Runout Etchings

    FujpeqqamWvf25 January 2025United States🇺🇸

Be aware that there are many unofficial pressings of this out there. Make sure to check the runout etchings." (Note: The rewritten review maintains the original's casual tone, similar sentence structure, and includes a similar type of error - "etchings" is used instead of "etching" to mirror the original's potential lack of precision in language.)

  • Unnumbered Limited Edition Box

    5 out of 5 stars
    cebubvuipg12 January 2025United States🇺🇸

This box might only have 250 copies out there, but I don't think it's numbered. There's no number printed or written on the outside of the box. I've looked around and can't find any info saying the edition number is inside either. No details about that. I reckon it's a super limited box, just not numbered.
