I get why this might let some folks down and 👍 others. It's a bit more laid-back and understated than their recent work, more of a chill Sunday than a wild Saturday. I'll be honest, I'm usually more into their upbeat, booty-shakin' beats. But hey, it's still pretty smooth, no matter how you like your toast.
I'm really let down by this album. I had to go through the hassle of ordering it and getting it sent to a mate in NZ who then shipped it to me since FFD won't deliver to the US. It's dull and misses the heart of their earlier work. The sound feels flat, with no strong drum beats. Dallas's vocals seem far away in the lyrics. Maybe they were aiming for a different vibe or musical impact. Whatever they were going for, they fell short. I don't want them to just repeat the past, but this is a letdown after waiting so long for new music. It's just a shadow of their usual sound. #devastated
FFD has truly outdone themselves with this one. The vinyl might be cut a bit low, but it's packed with detail and richness. You'll just need to crank up the volume to feel those deep beats. The second disc, particularly Side C, was a bit noisy, but the amazing music more than makes up for it. I'm guessing the standard vinyl is bio vinyl, and based on the noise from the second disc, the deluxe version might be too. Overall, I'm thrilled - it's fantastic to have new music from FFD, and it definitely delivers on the musical front.
Fat Freddy's Drop has done it again, delivering another absolutely breathtaking album. It's like they've mixed the magic of Wairunga with the brilliance of Based On A True Story.
