Absolutely amazing. It transported me to another world each time I played this in 2000...It was the soundtrack of my year. I moved to the beat of every track on the album. It's best with the original samples, because I gave the second re-sampled version a listen and it's a disaster. Be sure to check out 'Radio' with the original sample of the guy who just stares at the test pattern. Like all great sample-based music, it's incredibly clever too, right up there with De La Soul.
I think my copy has the side C and side D labels mixed up. Has this happened to anyone else?
This pressing is pretty solid. It's true that it's still lacking the samples from the Zomba-promo and the initial Australian release, so it's akin to the version you'd find on the CD, iTunes, or when streaming on Spotify or Apple Music. The only issue I've noticed is a bit of sibilance on side D during "Live at Dominoes". No inner groove-distortion to speak of, though. Grab this copy while you can before the price goes up. My local record shop is selling it for 31,95€, and even that was a bit steep for me.
Awesome classic album, but this pressing ain't up to par. The sound quality ain't crisp or clear, got a lot of noise. I'm rocking a Rega P8 + Apheta II, and it sounds better when I stream it on Spotify. Yet another XL Recording pressing that's a letdown.
Alright, they couldn't include every single Frontier Psychiatrist sample. What can ya do? It's not like it's their call. And it's just one track missing anyways. Every other song here is pure gold. Still, it's a great re-release.
