• HANL's Stunning, Rich Gatefold

  The gatefold cover is absolutely stunning, both in its construction and the artwork, which is no surprise given that it's a HANL release. The coke bottle clear vinyl with black splatter brings to mind mint chocolate chip ice cream and looks fantastic. There's a bit of warping on my copy, but to be honest, that's the only kind of warping I can tolerate—it's easily fixed with a record weight. Initially, the sound was a bit noisy, and I thought it might be due to it being a GZ pressing, but after several deep wet cleanings, I've managed to remove most of the debris causing the surface noise. Now, it's almost perfect. The sound is incredibly deep, layered, and rich. The soundstage isn't the widest, but that's how the album was recorded, and I appreciate it just the way it is. This pressing offers a great level of detail, especially considering the album's distorted shoegaze and "lo-fi" elements (though this is HANL's most polished work yet, there's still plenty of that classic HANL touch from their first two LPs). Honestly, my only real complaint is that the volume is a bit low. Fantastic work from HANL—definitely one of the best post-punk albums to come out in recent years.

  In my opinion, this is one of the finest records in my collection when it comes to quality. The sleeve has a glossy finish, not that cheap cardboard feel, and the inner sleeves are top-notch, not those flimsy white paper ones. The record itself is a visual and auditory delight, the best-looking variant in my collection, perfectly matching the artwork. It plays flawlessly, no clicks or pops, with mastering and mixing that's spot on. You can hear every instrument distinctly, the bass is phenomenal, especially in "Dracula Bells." This album is quite different from "Deathconsciousness," and less dark compared to "The Unnatural World," but the lyrics still carry that unique, gloomy vibe. It's less angsty, less depressing, more about worry—worry about the future, life, the choices we make, time slipping away, the reminder that we're not eternal, anxiety, lots of it. It's a unique album, and that's what makes it perfect. They could have easily made another "Unnatural World" or "Deathconsciousness," and we'd have loved it, but they chose to do something new, and wow, it's incredible. Every song is fantastic, not a single complaint. My favorites are definitely "Dracula Bells," "Science Beat," and "Destinos." Please, give this one a listen, but expect something new, not another "Deathconsciousness" or "TUW." A must-have for HANL fans, simply great.
