Quite a nice mastering job: it sounds both warm and energetic. The guitar parts are light and prominent when they should be, yet never harsh. Fantastic pressing: the disc is flat and centered, with no pops or crackles to be heard.
The special red-vinyl version that comes with a poster is a great addition for any collector, and the quality of the pressing is impressive (minimal surface noise, well-mastered according to today's standards). If you were a fan of the raw, bluesy-garage sound from the Black Keys' earlier work, you might be a tad disappointed – the band seems to have shifted towards a more polished, pop-rock vibe. Crank up the volume, appreciate the bass, but keep an ear out for any distortion, particularly in songs like “Babygirl”. The dynamic range is about 11 - pretty decent for a rock album.
Lacking creativity. 'Babygirl' sounds all messed up. Hurts my ears. I'd go as far as to say: the Black Keys' worst album to date.
This one's a tad more poppy (music style) than their usual stuff. Not my top pick, but it's still pretty enjoyable.
Incredible album, snatched it up right after hearing it on Spotify. I only wish there were more tracks! The ruby hue is just stunning. One of the most gorgeous records in my collection.
