I reckon this Emily is among the finest acts by Bill, his left hand is simply astonishing…Stunning.
[reviewing copy #2062]A fantastic live trio show from '73. Bill's playing is superb, though a bit held back. Eddie ventures out in his solos and takes some risks, which pay off nicely. Bill truly shines on "Waltz For Debby", and his solo on "Who Can I Turn To?" is a standout. The intro to "The Two Lonely People" is another highlight, with a beautiful, slow-paced solo and stunning harmony. The MONO sound is warm and rich, with a deep bass and pleasant upper mid-range. It can get a bit too boomy at times. The piano is a tad dark; I wish there was a hint more brightness in the treble. (Just saw that Disc 2 has a brighter piano eq).The tape hiss is only noticeable at the start of A1 then gets EQ'd out fine. No issues there. The pressing by Resonance is top-notch, the vinyl is flawless and jet black, with no skips, no fill, no scuffs, etc. Perfect discs. Kudos on the thick poly inner sleeves. I'm not keen on spending $50 on a record, but this one's worth every penny. Also, I usually skip the liner notes, but the included booklet is gorgeous with some incredible content. Definitely worth a look.4 stars.
Echoing others on this one, fantastic performances, any tape hiss is barely noticeable to me - You won't get the intricacy and crispness of say Waltz for Debby or the Montreux Jazz festival (both are outstanding) but really pleased with this release - was after Inner Spirit, but this is what the local shop had
The tape's hiss is noticeable but it doesn't distract from the show. I truly loved it.
Just like I mentioned about 'Inner Spirit', this album is absolutely perfect. The performances are breathtaking, the sound quality is top-notch, and the overall vibe is just right. When I'm shelling out $50 for a brand new pressing, this is exactly what I hope for - dead silent and utterly engrossing.
