Absolutely no problems here, my version works perfectly and sounds fantastic
Without a doubt, this is my all-time favorite Jazz Album and the pinnacle of musical brilliance. Fell head over heels for Soul Jazz after purchasing this vinyl at a quaint record shop in Sternschanze, Hamburg. Unmistakably iconic and a must-listen suggestion.
The initial copy I bought last year (2021) had quite a bit of surface noise. I couldn't send it back, so I tucked it away and hardly ever played it. This week, I noticed Amazon (with their hassle-free returns) had it on sale for $16, so I went ahead and bought another copy. This one is so much better. Hardly any surface noise after just a quick wipe down. What an amazing album! The performances are fantastic and the remaster is gorgeous, it's a real treat for the ears.
Tonight, I've played two fresh records, and both are plagued with irritating noise, warped sounds, and digital hiccups. I'm fed up with dropping $50-$80 on new pressings, only to have most of them sound like garbage. This album is absolutely phenomenal but completely wrecked by a shocking lack of care in its production. This record, along with Miles Davis' "In a Silent Way" (the other one I played), should unfortunately both be given a wide berth.
I've given it a shot three times at this point. The first two copies had distortion during the louder sections. Every single time the volume increases and tries to get you pumped, distortion creeps in something fierce. Not like that with other records I own. This third attempt is much improved but still not perfect… pretty letdown.
