Product Description

Kenny Burrell, the legendary jazz guitarist, delivers a timeless masterpiece with "Midnight Blue," released on September 20, 2001, under TP4 Music. This album is a quintessential journey through the rich landscapes of hard bop, cool jazz, and soul jazz, showcasing Burrell's virtuosic guitar work and his deep understanding of blues-infused jazz.

"Midnight Blue" is a compact yet powerful collection of nine tracks, each offering a unique blend of bebop energy and soulful melodies. From the opening notes of "Chitlins Con Carne" to the final chords of "K Twist," Burrell's guitar weaves intricate patterns and soulful licks, accompanied by a stellar ensemble that includes the likes of Ray Barretto on congas and Gene Taylor on bass.

The album's title track, "Midnight Blue," is a standout, featuring a hauntingly beautiful melody that captures the essence of late-night jazz sessions. "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You?" and "Saturday Night Blues" showcase Burrell's ability to infuse traditional jazz standards with his own distinctive style, while "Wavy Gravy" and "Kenny's Sound" highlight his compositional prowess.

With a runtime of just over 43 minutes, "Midnight Blue" is a concise yet profound exploration of jazz's many facets. Burrell's mastery of the guitar, combined with his keen sense of arrangement and his ability to blend various jazz styles seamlessly, makes this album a standout in his extensive discography. Whether you're a seasoned jazz aficionado or a newcomer to the genre, "Midnight Blue" offers a captivating listening experience that underscores Kenny Burrell's enduring legacy in the world of jazz.

Absolutely no problems here, my version works perfectly and sounds fantastic

  • Jazz Album Brilliance

Without a doubt, this is my all-time favorite Jazz Album and the pinnacle of musical brilliance. Fell head over heels for Soul Jazz after purchasing this vinyl at a quaint record shop in Sternschanze, Hamburg. Unmistakably iconic and a must-listen suggestion.

  • Second Copy Shines

    5 out of 5 stars
    lxfuoxluf12 December 2025United States🇺🇸

The initial copy I bought last year (2021) had quite a bit of surface noise. I couldn't send it back, so I tucked it away and hardly ever played it. This week, I noticed Amazon (with their hassle-free returns) had it on sale for $16, so I went ahead and bought another copy. This one is so much better. Hardly any surface noise after just a quick wipe down. What an amazing album! The performances are fantastic and the remaster is gorgeous, it's a real treat for the ears.

  • Disappointing New Pressings

    1 out of 5 stars
    _JOZE_8 December 2025United States🇺🇸

Tonight, I've played two fresh records, and both are plagued with irritating noise, warped sounds, and digital hiccups. I'm fed up with dropping $50-$80 on new pressings, only to have most of them sound like garbage. This album is absolutely phenomenal but completely wrecked by a shocking lack of care in its production. This record, along with Miles Davis' "In a Silent Way" (the other one I played), should unfortunately both be given a wide berth.

  • Distortion Issues Persist

    2 out of 5 stars
    Reiklum954 December 2025United States🇺🇸

I've given it a shot three times at this point. The first two copies had distortion during the louder sections. Every single time the volume increases and tries to get you pumped, distortion creeps in something fierce. Not like that with other records I own. This third attempt is much improved but still not perfect… pretty letdown.
