Kenny's live show is lively yet laid-back, consistently rooted in the blues, yet his extended phrases hint at bebop. His skill is outstanding, effortlessly switching between chord solos and single-note runs. The setlist was superb, with standout tracks like "All Night Long" and "Broadway". His swing is impeccable, and he never misses a beat. Roy Haynes joins in on "Well You Needn't". This 1959 live album is pretty good, with natural instrument sounds and a solid mix. It's not as polished as a KB studio album, but it perfectly captures the club's vibrant atmosphere that night. No issues with the pressing, though the vinyl has some rumble between songs. But who cares, the music is fantastic and this is one of the top 5 KB records, in my opinion. 4.25 stars.
Sound quality is top-notch, absolutely adore Verve Original albums 👍
Steer clear, it's a total rip-off. Absolutely dreadful product. Picture this, one channel flickers in and out, and the sound? Well, it's just okay, nothing to write home about. So let down. I'm amazed this even hit the shelves.
Perhaps the recording was off? Regardless, this is terrible and quite difficult to listen to. Additionally, there's even noise in the pressing, which makes it even worse.
The audio is fantastic, but the cover art is hideous on this release. It's a mono take of an amazing live performance.
