This album's music is straight-up aggressive, clean, and sharp, like the edges of newly cut sheet metal. Sonically, it's incredibly well done. Jah Wobble's dub bass is phenomenal; he's playing a game of Risk, constantly taking over your armies and territories with each roll of the dice. This album is seriously impressive. My copy, however, has disc 1 warped a bit, but it still plays fine. I think the disc was pushed too far into the gatefold jacket, which was then closed and shrink-wrapped tightly, causing the warping. I bought it directly from Cleopatra and also grabbed the blue version, which was $2 more. I figured I'd give it to my 79-year-old dad who's a fan of Jah Wobble. I don't know. All the discs should be silver to match the Metal Box concept. It's kinda silly to have two colors, but that's marketing for you. Regardless, this release is awesome. The vocals are minimal, and the dub is fantastic—it's quite trippy. The production is top-notch, and the discs are nice and quiet. There's a lot of static electricity built up, making them tricky to remove from the white paper sleeves, which I'm not a fan of as they can cause paper scratches on records. Spin them slowly, get some air in those sleeves when removing them, and give them a quick clean before transferring. There were also some paper slivers on my discs. Does anyone know how limited these are? How many were pressed?
Bent but usable. Clearly don't wanna send it back since they're out of stock.
Mine are dead flat and silent. The bass is thick and this thing’s a blast! (Where’s Alex Patterson when you need him?)
Even after giving it an ultrasonic clean, the 2024 repress is still quite noisy. That said, the music is fantastic.
