Mine are dull and hushed. The bass is thick and this thing’s a blast! (Where’s Alex Patterson when you need him?)
This music is straight-up aggressive, clean, and sharp, like the edges of a freshly cut metal sheet. Sonically, it's incredibly well done. Jah Wobble's dub bass is phenomenal—he's playing Risk, taking over your armies and territories with every dice roll. This album is seriously impressive. My copy, though, has disc 1 warped a bit, but it still plays fine. I think the disc was pushed too far into the gatefold jacket before it was closed and shrink-wrapped tightly, which probably caused the warp. I bought it directly from Cleopatra and also grabbed the blue version for a couple of bucks more. I figured I'd give it to my 79-year-old dad, who's a big fan of Jah. I don't know. All the discs should be silver to match the Metal Box concept. It's a bit silly to have two colors, but that's marketing for you. Anyway, this release is awesome. The vocals are minimal, and the dub is fantastic—really trippy. The production is top-notch, and the discs are nice and quiet. There's a lot of static electricity, though, making them hard to take out of the white paper sleeves. I'm not a fan of these sleeves because they tend to cause paper scratches on records. Spin them slowly, get some air in the sleeves when removing them, and clean them well before playing. There were also some paper slivers on my discs. Does anyone know how limited these are? How many were pressed?
Bent but usable. Clearly don't wanna send it back since they're out of stock.
The 2024 repressing is quite noisy, even after giving it an ultrasonic clean. But the music is fantastic.
