Product Description

"Lateralus," the third studio album by progressive metal pioneers TOOL, is a masterclass in intricate musicianship and thought-provoking composition. Released on May 15, 2001, under RCA Records, this album spans a diverse range of genres, including progressive metal, alternative metal, progressive rock, and metal, showcasing TOOL's versatility and innovation.

Clocking in at a substantial 1 hour and 16 minutes, "Lateralus" is a journey through complex rhythms, haunting melodies, and profound lyrics. The album opens with "The Grudge," a track that immediately sets the tone with its hypnotic groove and layered vocals. Standout tracks like "Schism," which won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance, and "Parabola," with its mesmerizing time signature shifts, highlight TOOL's ability to blend technical prowess with emotional depth.

The album's title track, "Lateralus," is a standout piece that combines mathematical concepts with spiritual themes, reflecting TOOL's penchant for blending intellectual and artistic elements. "Ticks & Leeches" and "Triad" further demonstrate the band's knack for creating songs that are both musically challenging and lyrically profound.

"Lateralus" is a testament to TOOL's unique approach to music, where every note, lyric, and rhythm is carefully crafted to create a cohesive and immersive experience. Whether you're a long-time fan or a newcomer to their music, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience that continues to resonate with audiences years after its release.

This 2020 Limited Edition Reissue 2LP set is pressed on Picture Disc vinyl.

  • New Disc, Old Issues

    2 out of 5 stars

Picked up this album from my neighborhood record shop, but had to swap the first one since it was all bent, super distorted, and had a bunch of floor rumble. The replacement copy works, but there's still a lot of crackles and pops for a supposedly new disc. Not ideal for high-fidelity listening. That said, the songs themselves are pretty good.

Picked up this album from my neighborhood record shop and had to swap the first one since it was bent, super distorted, and had a bunch of background noise. The replacement copy works, but there's still a lot of hiss and pops for a brand new disc. Not ideal for a high-fidelity listening session. The songs themselves are awesome, though.

  • Unplayable Vinyl Nightmare

    1 out of 5 stars
    Mifiaer1 January 2026United States🇺🇸

This record is plagued by awful surface noise (extremely loud crackling and popping) on both sides. I've never encountered a vinyl this terrible, and I own quite a collection. It's practically unplayable in this condition. I'm sending it back immediately to get a replacement and see if the entire batch is affected.

  • Picture Disc Decent Quality

    5 out of 5 stars
    XfskOldJit16 December 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

Joining the chorus of voices here, I must admit, picture discs aren't really my thing. I grabbed this one fresh a couple of weeks back and just now got the chance to give it a full listen. As others have pointed out, it's not bad. There's no heavy rumble like you often get with picture discs, but there are a few noticeable pops and crackles, especially in the quieter parts (like at the start of each side). All in all, it's bearable, and the sound quality is pretty great otherwise. The guitar work really shines! One of my all-time favorite LPs, I'm hoping it eventually comes out on regular, clean black vinyl, but for now, this isn't as bad as you might think.

  • Unofficial, Skip This One

    2 out of 5 stars
    Upzlg7 December 2025United States🇺🇸

The sound's alright if you're not lookin'. But the gatefold's a real letdown, and the records don't even have a print on 'em. Totally unofficial, steer clear of this one.
