I'm so happy I got this one! Absolutely fantastic. A flawless album and one of my favs from Kenny Burrell.
The mastering and pressing on this album are truly excellent. I'm a bit puzzled, though, why Ira Gitler mentions in the liner notes that the opening track stretches to 11 minutes when it's actually around 8. Perhaps it's because the track is so captivating that he'd love it to be even longer! From a musical standpoint, the album is quite a typical Prestige release from this period—it's highly enjoyable, though not particularly groundbreaking. Surprisingly, I believe I appreciate it more than most, if not all, of Kenny's Blue Note records. Thankfully, there's no conga filler to be found here.
Absolutely... a stunning listen! Very soothing, effortless and calming to the ears, but in the most wonderful way. Await the night... grab your preferred drink, ignite the fire and play the record!Typical outstanding qualities of the series with the stylus on, flat and hushed RTI vinyl. Sound quality appears spot on so zero issues at all!
Stunning album, gorgeous tracks, and an amazing cover. I'm glad Craft placed the barcode on the obi strip instead of the LP jacket.
Can anyone tell me if this is a Stereo or Mono version? There's no clue on the labels or the cover, I don't think.

Kenny Burrell's self-titled debut album, originally released in 1957 on Prestige, is a quintessential hard bop record that showcases the guitarist's distinctive style and virtuosic playing. This album marks Kenny Burrell's fourth release as a leader on the Prestige label and his sixth overall as a leader. Recorded with a stellar lineup of hard boppers, the album features a blend of original compositions and classic standards, including the upbeat "Get Happy" and the soulful "How About You?" The tracks "Mexico City - Live At Cafe Bohemia, New York City / 1956 / Alternate Take" and "Phinupi" offer a glimpse into Burrell's live performances and his ability to captivate audiences with his dynamic playing. With its rich harmonies, swinging rhythms, and Burrell's impeccable guitar work, this album is a standout in the jazz canon and a testament to the enduring appeal of hard bop.
This is a 2024 Limited Edition Reissue released as a LP.
