Absolutely killer collection. Just popped it open and enjoyed every single second! F'n sounds amazing!
For a Sublime enthusiast, this is a neat slice of history. However, it's basically just 40 Oz to Freedom all over again. I'd have loved to see some of their rarer tracks like "New Realization" and "Romeo" included. You might be better off just grabbing 40 oz to freedom instead.
**This demo was sold out of the band's car trunk, which is why a particular track lacks the solo and production tweaks found on the full-length versions.**I wasn't sure what to expect from these demo tracks, but the sound quality is fantastic. I was happily surprised by the richness of the sounds and tones, and all 10 songs have the polish you'd expect from a full release. The horns shine, the vocals are well-balanced, and the bass can groove and drive the songs without any elements getting lost in the mix. On first listen, I found Badfish and Date Rape to be refreshing, maybe even better, than the full studio versions. It's hard to say something is "better," though, so let's just say I might prefer these versions. I got a black copy, like most buyers, so I can't compare it to the 420 Green version. My copy, sadly, had very noticeable swirls of tiny scratches on Side B, though I didn't notice any effect on the vinyl's playback. This was a 5-star listen for me, and after a few more listens with a beer or two, I'll update with some song thoughts and more details. If you missed this at Record Store Day and can find it without too much price inflation on eBay, don't hesitate. I've always liked Sublime, though they aren't my favorite band—this is a must-have for my collection.
Probably around 500 green copies in total. Everyone involved in making this release, plus former Sublime members and family, got green copies before RSD. A few folks even received 2 green copies.
