The songs aren't in the right order. Okay, it's a bootleg record, but still...
This mixtape is a bit wonky, to put it mildly, but I'm still stoked to own a copy of this fantastic mixtape. "Wicked Games" on Side B is mastered terribly, it's way too loud and sounds all messed up. The packaging and overall experience were pretty good, and I'm definitely planning to grab another variant soon. 10/10 for the Mixtape, 9/10 for the Packagin.
The quality of this release is absolutely breathtaking, with The Morning and House of Balloons/Glass Table Girls sounding flawless, fantastic reissue.
An absolute work of art! 🙏🏻 I suppose this must be ten words long :(
Unfortunate. Given how rich and dynamic this album is, this pressing is plagued with playback problems. There's audible surface noise all through it, made worse by the low cutting. The highs sound weak. Inner-groove distortion and harshness are severe, which is surprising since most sides are under 15 minutes long. The vinyl itself is in poor shape too... it needed a thorough cleaning just to make it playable. The music, despite all these issues, is just okay at best, but it's often drowned out by these problems to the point that I don't enjoy playing this at all. The packaging is nice... but it hardly matters. URP can be blamed for most of these issues, but what's interesting is that unlike Thursday and Echoes, which use the same cut from The Trilogy Box, this one is a brand new cut. I'm not sure who did this one, but the sound quality is significantly worse. So, even if you overlook all the pressing issues, this would still fall short sonically. I haven't heard the original cut from the Box set, but I can imagine, based on the others in the set, that it sounds much different than what you have here. I suspect that the EU MPO cut might fare better in pressing quality, but you're still going to miss out on that desired sound. Maybe that justifies the $2k price tag of the Box Set, but either way, this reissue should only be picked up for collecting. If you actually want to listen to the music, stay away from this one and stick with a Hi-Res digital copy.
