Great quality record, even though it was second-hand.
Incredible, gorgeous vinyl! I can't quite put it into words, but the edges are so smooth and appear handcrafted, it's clear that a lot of effort went into making this one. The sound quality is fantastic, crystal clear and full of life, and the color is stunning, truly gives off a rusty vibe. It's a shame it's so limited and tough to get, I really hope they press more copies one day with the same top-notch quality.
Fantastic pressing, not a single crackle in my copy, completely quiet. Though I'd love it if it had the same labels as the older pressings.
Indie rock isn't really my thing, and I'm not particularly fond of Beirut's other albums, although there are some great parts in Flying Club Cup. But this one, I can't get enough of. I think it's the brass sections that do it for me; they're pretty much spot on for my taste. It's as if someone took the brass parts, sent them back in time to age another seven decades, and then brought them back for us to enjoy. There's something oddly historical and yet timeless about the instrumental backing, and Zach Condon's songwriting and voice just fit the vibe of this album perfectly. It's a peculiar one, that's for sure, and totally iconic. I get why he couldn't just keep making albums that sounded like Gulag Orkestar, but I kind of wish he had.
An incredible re-release! These 2019 Beirut reissues sound absolutely fantastic, with perfectly quiet, flawless vinyl. Don't let these slip away without grabbing them!
