This album is not for everyone, but let me tell you, the very first song here NAILS it, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" has this amazing gospel/soulful feel with female vocals that blend in so perfectly, it'll transport you to that imaginary church in a heartbeat. On the instrumental tracks, every musician shines and is easy to pick out, but I gotta give a special shoutout to the string instruments - absolutely stunning, so much depth and richness. For the price brand new (like mine was), it's a total no-brainer if you're into Jazz / Funk / Soul and Fusion, it's a Quincy Jones production so you KNOW you're getting top-notch quality. Highly recommended, five stars, thanks for reading, enjoy the tunes! This is a steal: amazing bang for your buck with this album. The pressing is spot on and the musicianship is outstanding; a true electric jazz gem from the early 70s. Grab it!
Quincy's version of Bridge Over Troubled Water is unique, though it's not really my thing. But tracks like Gula Matari, Walkin’, and Hummin’ — this is the master at his peak, blending big band, bop, and smooth film score elements into soul-touching sounds that are truly extraordinary. The creative concept is executed perfectly by an all-star group. A stunning album.
An incredible, unrestrained jazz journey, it's astonishing how perfectly crafted each emphasis is, whether for a specific instrument or the singing (which is also superb). There's a strong Mingus vibe at times :) simply an outstanding album.
Truly an amazing pressing. Noise floor is super low and the dynamics are spot on. Not much more to add.
