These albums sound fantastic, with excellent clarity, a solid mix, and they play amazingly on my turntable.
Amongst my least fav R.E.M. albums, at least in their early years. Still, it's a genuine classic. The band were truly on top of their game.
Among the first CDs I purchased was this album, and for many years, it remained my final REM acquisition. I enjoyed it, but when the '90s arrived, new bands and fresh sounds captured my attention. However, this original vinyl pressing is absolutely fantastic. It's remarkably well-produced for an LP from that era, when record companies were eager to move away from vinyl. It feels like experiencing the album all over again. Highly recommend it.
I picked up this gem for just $15 at a record shop not too far from me during a rare trip to North Carolina, swinging by Mckaysville. I believe I've got the club version here. If that's the case, I'm thrilled! Oasis is one of my all-time favorite bands, and I'm eager to own the best-sounding version possible from each of their first studio album years. This is the first addition to my Oasis collection, and it includes what I consider their masterpiece, "Orange Crush." Sure, plenty might disagree, but they're missing out—"Orange Crush" hits harder than an extra splash of my favorite fruity cocktail. Lately, I've been reorganizing my collection, focusing on records that are both "worthy" and ones I'll actually play. Speaking of which, today was a great haul—original 1963 Mono Surfin’ USA, a 1988 Club pressing of Green (I was super excited about that one), and the 1965 Stereo Summer Days (And Nights). Surprisingly, these are the only original Beach Boys LPs I haven't seen going for insane prices lately, so I snatched them up. The Beach Boys are my favorite band, hands down. Back to this album, though—it's got a really acoustic vibe, which is a nice change from most of my collection. I'm happy to have something so warm and cozy in my records. Perfect for anyone, anytime. R.E.M is probably the greatest rock band ever, except for The Beach Boys, of course. Debate me. The pressing is warm and lovely, with beautiful guitar and piano melodies and snappy drum breaks that give the album a real sense of purpose. The vocals are my favorite part—just stunning. They bring the album to life in the best way, all wrapped up in a really neat sleeve. There's a bit of swirl on the label, but what really blows me away is the lyrical content. I'd recommend really listening to the words or using headphones to block out distractions so you can catch every bit of the message. Honestly, R.E.M's entire studio discography hits the mark for what music should be—great rock and roll that's not too preachy, not just grooves, but masterfully crafted in lyrics, sound, and intent. Music isn't just there to fill silence; it's powerful. This album is powerful. 10/10 Favorite Track: Orange Crush 🟩🍊🟧
In my opinion, this album is absolutely AAA! The bass, mids, and highs are PHENOMENAL, though in the final tracks on both sides, there's a touch of inner groove noise. Chris Bellman did a fantastic job mastering it, and the overall disc is superb. 🔥
