An amazing 90 mins of James Brown. What a steal and it sounds fantastic as well!" --- Original review: "The product was delivered on time and in good condition. However, the color was not as expected. It was more of a dark shade than what was shown on the website." Rewritten review: "It arrived right on time and in great shape. But the color wasn't quite right. It turned out to be more of a darker hue than what was displayed online.
Hey kids, let me tell you a tale... Back in the day, in the good ol' USA, the UK version of this album was such a hot import that Polydor finally decided to release it here, nearly a decade after it came out in the UK. It's one of those rare greatest hits collections that's arranged in order and actually feels like a proper album... And the sound quality? Top-notch. I must've gone through a half-dozen cassette copies with my pals and family during the '80s and '90s... Just sharing a little story, a blast from the past... it's fantastic, pretty sure it's all analog... I still have a couple of boomboxes and tape decks lying around... Trying to find a replacement for the factory cassette I had, the one that met an untimely end in the washing machine... Man, I shed real tears that day... Yeah, I could dub my original UK pressing with my fancy-schmancy old-school hi-fi gear... but I want that beige plastic case, you know?
The audio quality of this device is absolutely amazing. I guess it's because it's entirely analog. It has a powerful, expansive soundstage.
Echoing what others have said, this album is fantastic. The vinyl is super thin, but the sound quality is impressive. Occasionally, it can get a bit harsh, but that's a minor quibble. It's a stellar compilation of James Brown tracks, with a strong focus on his funkier side. Disc 2 is just amazing – you'll wish those grooves never end. It's pretty much the perfect collection I was hoping for. The songs aren't cut short to fit on vinyl, so you still get satisfying lengths...I'm talking about tracks like "The Payback" and "Get Up Offa That Thing"...basically all of disc 2. Those tunes. There's only two things that could make this collection even better...extended mixes across the board (though that's not really doable on just 2 discs) and throwing in "It's Too Funky in Here". But that's a no-go since that funky gem dropped in 1979.
