I'm really into the lyrics of this Arctic album, and the music is executed brilliantly. However, it's not their strongest work; I'd say it's pretty average. It's not terrible, just nothing particularly memorable.
Fantastic, extremely heavy press. The original pressing features JACKIE PANTOMINE's signature on the runouts
This album is fantastic! I haven't listened to the CD version to compare, but the vinyl sounds incredible; the drums hit hard, and the overall sound is crystal clear. Plus, it's only 25 Euros brand new and comes with a quality inner sleeve. "Suck It And See" will always be my top Arctic Monkeys album, but "Four Wheel Drive" is a standout in its own way.
When this album dropped, it totally slipped under my radar, even though I was a big fan of their first one. Then, AM came along and blew up everywhere, including with me. Fast forward a few years, and my daughter gets into them, insisting this album is their absolute masterpiece. So, we grabbed a copy, and holy crap... she nailed it. This isn't some struggle of a second album - it's a full-on "punch in the face" kind of record... a band at the peak of their powers, and they're flaunting it. It outshines its predecessor without even trying... and their debut had already been called "one of the most significant British rock albums in history". In a nutshell; the public: "The Arctic Monkeys will never match the hype of their first album". Alex Turner: "Watch me". A timeless gem from day one.
