This is a really solid pressing of a fantastic demo album. The sound quality is great overall. The dynamics are impressive throughout, and the bass is warm and inviting. There's hardly any surface noise, and the mastering is reasonably loud. Just remember, it was a demo recorded on tape, so don't expect perfection—it won't surpass the original tapes! But it's a great addition to have on vinyl. This is definitely my favorite of the Ozric's cereal box set!
The pressing is decent and the music is quite enjoyable (give it a few listens before criticizing it for what it isn't!) but, for those hoping that your old cassette copies have been upgraded, like 'remastered on vinyl', just be happy it's on a more lasting format. This is one of those cases where 'remastered' just means it's been 'mastered again'. The original multi-track master seems to be lost as it sounds like we're just listening to a good copy of a cassette. Even so, the remastering of the cassette copy could have been much better. A few hours (or less) with a basic multi-band compressor in Logic could have made it sound fuller and brighter. They also could've widened the soundstage a bit. In other words, they've left things pretty much unchanged. Either to stay true to the original or because they didn't put in the effort. I hate to be tough, but I expected more from the Ozrics and Ed Wynne, especially when transferring to vinyl! It's disappointing sonically. Musically though, three and a half stars!
