The record I got is alright! There's a bit of crackling and some hiss, but it's not the worst I've come across. Though, I did notice some tiny black specks stuck in the vinyl, which is a bit odd. It doesn't seem to affect the sound when the needle passes over them, but it's still a bit of a letdown when you're looking forward to a pristine record. Oh well!
This record sounds quite nice, except for the last song. There's minimal surface noise, and the music comes through clear with solid bass. The last track, though, is a bit of a letdown. Like many folks, I noticed some serious distortion on it, making it kind of harsh to listen to. Apart from that, it's a decent pressing. After all, it's pressed by GZ Media, so you can't really expect flawlessness.
Gorillas has put out a solid pop album here. The disc itself is smooth, well-centered, and thin, weighing in at 130 grams. It's impressively quiet. The audio quality is fantastic—the dynamic range is broad, the balance is even, the soundstage is wide, and the detail is very good. However, there's a slight issue. As mentioned in many other reviews, the piano parts on the final track have noticeable distortion. It's likely a mastering problem. The album artwork is cartoonish, as usual, and feels a bit amateurish. The packaging is classic, with a double-sided poster folded inside. The inner sleeve is colored pink with an apple cutout, but no cellophane pad. I appreciate this kind of packaging—a classic envelope with a standard thickness and disc weight. Gorillaz's new álbum is alright, but it tries a bit too hard to reach greatness. The sound is good (though not on every track), but it's worth giving a listen.
Great pressing, it's got a solid sound and a good volume (the 7" is pretty good too). It kinda gives me "Plastic Beach" vibes, I'm excited to explore this album more. The whole box set is really nice.
