The sound quality and pressing on this are absolutely fantastic. I'd forgotten just how amazing this album is until I played it. The vibraphones really caught my attention this time, and it's definitely a keeper.
This version of the album is head and shoulders above my US copies. The vinyl is super quiet, with amazing high-end detail and hardly any harshness. From the very first drum beats, I just knew this was going to be an outstanding pressing. Hands down, it's the best Countdown To Ecstasy I've ever heard, and I wholeheartedly endorse it for any hardcore fans of this album or the man himself.
Incredible version, can't wrap my head around how it's still so affordable. Fantastic underappreciated album, excellent copy. Highly recommend!
I've got this record, and it's truly awful. My copy's in mint condition, but the sound quality is just terrible. It's so muddy, like Becker and Fagen are performing underwater. Steer clear of this pressing. It's one of the top albums in my collection, but hands down, the worst sounding copy I've got. I'm on the hunt for another early pressing next. Probe is the one I'm eyeing to get.
Picked it up for a steal at a nearby store. The quality of the pressing is top-notch, except for a few skips on "Show Biz Kids," but a good clean could sort that out. The sound is incredibly well-balanced with awesome dynamics! The vocals shine, the guitar and keys are rich, and the drums are crisp! I'd totally recommend it for a reasonable price! "Bodhisattva" is my fave, but "Old School," "The Boston Rag," "King of the World," and "Pearl of the Quarter" are all killer tracks too.
