Product Description

Steely Dan's "Countdown to Ecstasy," released on July 1, 1973, under Geffen, is a classic rock masterpiece that showcases the band's signature blend of intricate musicianship and witty, introspective lyrics. Clocking in at just over 40 minutes, this album is a concise yet powerful collection of tracks that highlight Steely Dan's early prowess.

The album opens with "Bodhisattva," a track that sets the tone with its jazzy, laid-back groove and philosophical lyrics. "Razor Boy" follows, delivering a punchier rock sound, while "The Boston Rag" offers a more complex, layered composition. Each song on "Countdown to Ecstasy" reveals Steely Dan's knack for crafting memorable melodies and clever wordplay, making it a standout in their discography.

Standout tracks like "Your Gold Teeth" and "Show Biz Kids" exemplify the band's ability to blend rock with jazz and pop elements seamlessly. "My Old School" and "Pearl Of The Quarter" further demonstrate their songwriting skills, with rich harmonies and insightful lyrics. The album closes with "King Of The World," a track that encapsulates the album's essence—sophisticated, engaging, and undeniably catchy.

"Countdown to Ecstasy" is a testament to Steely Dan's early creative peak, offering a listening experience that is both intellectually stimulating and musically satisfying.

This is a 1981 Reissue released as a LP.

  • Vibraphones Shine on Fantastic Album

    5 out of 5 stars
    Zesf-Rxagqf3 January 2026United States🇺🇸

The sound quality and pressing on this are absolutely fantastic. I'd forgotten just how amazing this album is until I played it. The vibraphones really caught my attention this time, and it's definitely a keeper.

  • Best Countdown To Ecstasy Pressing

    5 out of 5 stars
    Qwiyocu25 December 2025United States🇺🇸

This version of the album is head and shoulders above my US copies. The vinyl is super quiet, with amazing high-end detail and hardly any harshness. From the very first drum beats, I just knew this was going to be an outstanding pressing. Hands down, it's the best Countdown To Ecstasy I've ever heard, and I wholeheartedly endorse it for any hardcore fans of this album or the man himself.

  • Affordable Incredible Underrated Album

    5 out of 5 stars
    afunm11 December 2025United States🇺🇸

Incredible version, can't wrap my head around how it's still so affordable. Fantastic underappreciated album, excellent copy. Highly recommend!

  • Awful Sound Quality

    1 out of 5 stars
    mehcekorcili9 December 2025United States🇺🇸

I've got this record, and it's truly awful. My copy's in mint condition, but the sound quality is just terrible. It's so muddy, like Becker and Fagen are performing underwater. Steer clear of this pressing. It's one of the top albums in my collection, but hands down, the worst sounding copy I've got. I'm on the hunt for another early pressing next. Probe is the one I'm eyeing to get.

  • Great Sound, Minor Skips

    5 out of 5 stars
    wahizqerorgad7 November 2025United States🇺🇸

Picked it up for a steal at a nearby store. The quality of the pressing is top-notch, except for a few skips on "Show Biz Kids," but a good clean could sort that out. The sound is incredibly well-balanced with awesome dynamics! The vocals shine, the guitar and keys are rich, and the drums are crisp! I'd totally recommend it for a reasonable price! "Bodhisattva" is my fave, but "Old School," "The Boston Rag," "King of the World," and "Pearl of the Quarter" are all killer tracks too.
