Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.
This happens to be the final Jimmy McGriff album put out by Sue Records prior to his collaboration with Sonny Lester at Solid State, a team-up that endured close to ten years. It's also somewhat of a bridge record, staying true to its name, featuring less upbeat tracks and a significant focus on more contemplative, blues-infused pieces. This pressing delivers a crisp, cozy, personal stereo soundstage. My copy plays with some widespread light surface hiss, and there's a brief stretch of a couple spins (around 20 seconds) on "Bump De Bump" that are spoiled by a scratch causing a skip de skip.
