This is absolutely amazing, and a huge step up sonically from my 2016 EU version, which was already pretty great. The bass here is so much more impactful, yet it doesn't muddy up the rest of the sound. You can really hear all the nuances now, like that jazzy guitar at the start of Blue Lines that was a bit buried on the 2016 version. The vocals are spot on, and overall, this is an outstanding pressing of this timeless album.
Among my absolute favorite albums and a true dance music gem. It was revolutionary in every way when it dropped. This album kicked off the trip hop craze, inspiring countless chill-out, lounge records by artists like Portishead, Morcheeba, Nightmares on Wax, Ballistic Brothers, and more - Massive Attack were the pioneers. It also features amazing hip hop (Blue Lines), breathtaking & enduring soul music (Unfinished Sympathy) & an unforgettable closing track that powerfully comments on today's society & our environment (Hymn of the Big Wheel). Absolutely brilliant & deserves 5 stars!
Most likely their finest album from the good ol' days (90's). You'll find some truly iconic vocals here, courtesy of William DeVaughn, Horace Andy, and Shara Nelson. The early trip-hop/Downtempo/U.K. dance vibe is absolutely killer, packed with bass and beats that'll blow your mind, and the group's own vocals? Spot on! Highly recommended, 4.5* - cheers for reading. Here's a rewritten version of the review: "Fun fact from Wikipedia; The Mahavishnu Orchestra have also been used in modern music, most famously by Massive Attack on their song "Unfinished Sympathy", which sampled "Planetary Citizen", leading to the band getting sued by Ralphe Armstrong, who got a substantial out-of-court settlement.[1] "You Know, You Know" was sampled in Massive Attack's "One Love", Mos Def's "Kalifornia.
Gorgeous, sturdy, quiet pressing on gorgeous thick vinyl. It sounds fantastic and does this amazing album justice. In my honest opinion, it's the finest version.
