Don't be misled by the brief description at the top of the page: Beyond being a re-release, this album is a thorough remastering of Roy Orbison's iconic black and white concert. I refer to it as a "thorough remastering" because there's a noticeable shift in how the concert's sound is presented: In the original version, Mr. Orbison's voice was on par with the band's, with a balanced presentation of all elements playing more or less equally. In this version, the focus is clearly on Roy's voice, which is ever-present across the soundstage with occasional emphasis on individual instruments, depending on the song or moment. The audience's presence is now less noticeable than in the original version. As for the new tracks, since this release is spread across two discs, there's space to include songs that couldn't fit on the original, single-disc version. In this regard, the addition of Blue Angel, Claudette, or a short, additional version of Pretty Woman is a welcome addition (personally, I think Blue Angel is fantastic). Lastly, the recording and pressing quality: Regarding the recording, and being objectively exposed to how this remaster differs from the original, the record's sound is fantastic (no compression, no distortion, nothing to complain about). However, the pressing isn't as good: although it arrived in perfect condition, my copy has occasional noise always in the same tracks, at the same moment, only on the left channel. This is the same issue, though not as severe, as the one described by some owners (including me) of the Legacy 2018 reissue of Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. Interestingly, Legacy is the same company releasing this record, presenting the same problem. This is why I didn't give this record five stars.
I received a genuine promo version, and it sounds fantastic from start to finish. I'm thrilled that this release finally balances the band and the vocals, unlike the 30-year remaster which seems to emphasize the vocals too much. The original has superb musicality, clarity, and captures the warmth of a live show. Absolutely overjoyed with it!
Unbelievable audio quality here. It's as if you're right there in the front row, with the band playing crystal clear and perfect. I'm still amazed he's been gone since '88, and even more shocking, he was just 52 when he passed away. This version doesn't include tracks 6 & 7 on Side A, which you might find on other editions.
This record's sound quality is fantastic. I'm not convinced a remastered version is necessary. It's still a bargain LP, so if you come across a pristine copy, grab it immediately. Hearing this brings back memories of the original broadcast. The clarity and definition are excellent.
Silent, no creaks or snaps with my version. It's never sounded this good.
