  Incredible pressing. It's got a vast range and massive dynamics, and I lucked out with a really NM copy so it's dead silent when it should be. Plus, the music is revolutionary - it kinda hints at KC's Discipline, I reckon.

  miles showell abbey road cut and it sounds really good to be cut from a digital source, this and another green world sound incredible! UPDATE! if u can find a us 1978 sterling cut, grab it, it's way better than this one, and this one is very good but the 1978 usa sterling is amazing

  A person once mentioned that "Before and After Science is truly an exploration of "studio composition," where music is crafted through dismantling and subtraction: layers of recordings are built up, then carefully removed one by one, leading to a final composition that's quite distinct from the initial starting point. Even though it's packaged as a pop album, the sound is distinctive and far removed from the mainstream. Eno also plays around with his lyrics, prioritizing sound over clear meaning. When combined with the music, these lyrics generate a new sense or impression of meaning, an idea drawn from abstract sound poet Kurt Schwitters (perfectly showcased on "Kurt's Rejoinder," which even includes samples from Schwitters' "Ursonate"). Before and After Science kicks off with two lively, upbeat tracks: "No One Receiving," showcasing the quirky rhythm work of Percy Jones and Phil Collins (regular collaborators with Eno during this era), and "Backwater." Jones' analog delay bass takes center stage on the subsequent "Kurt's Rejoinder," and he and Collins reunite for the enigmatic instrumental "Energy Fools the Magician." The final five tracks (the entire second side of the album) exude a tranquility unmatched in the pop music realm. These compositions occasionally evoke a pastoral charm, thoughtful and atmospheric. Cluster teams up with Eno on the evocative "By This River," but the album's highlight is the closing track, "Spider and I." With its hazy emotional depth, the song feels both melancholic and hopeful. The music on Before and After Science occasionally echoes Another Green World ("No One Receiving") and Here Come the Warm Jets ("King's Lead Hat") and stands proudly alongside them as some of Eno's most vital work.

• Eno's Masterpiece: Crystal Clear Sound

  This record has to be one of the finest sounding in my massive collection of 6023. The pressing is flawless, and every instrument and vocal is crystal clear. I'm not sure what special trick Eno used when he mastered this, but it's an absolute joy to listen to. I actually bought it when it first came out and have enjoyed it over the years, but recently I gave it a proper listen at high volume. Maybe it's the microphones he used, the tape, or the mixing console, but it's just perfectly executed. Whenever Percy Jones plays bass, it feels like his amp is right there in the room with me. The keyboards are present and distinct, and the drums are punchy and solid. I just found out that King's Lead Hat is an anagram for Talking Heads.
