This album is pure brilliance. The audio is incredibly rich and truly transports you to the live performance.
I agree with fredicol & s.pressman, having both versions of the album. Resonance is louder and sounds really good, but Fondamenta/Devialet is even better, with more detail (cymbals and high snare are crystal clear) and a wider dynamic range overall. It's an audiophile treasure!
This is an amazing pressing! The vinyl is heavy, thick, and perfectly flat, with sound quality that's absolutely stunning! It's even better than the Montreux version and gets very close to the Complete Vanguard box set. You'd never guess it's a 40-year-old recording—it's so clear, dynamic, and perfectly balanced, with no noise at all. It feels like you're right there with them. The version of Nardis here is incredible, featuring an outstanding solo by Eddie Gomez. In my opinion, it's way better than the Black Forest recording on Resonance. Bill's playing and the trio's interaction are much more inventive and engaging with the audience. No doubt about it, this is one of the best live Bill Evans recordings you can find on vinyl!
The sound quality of my copy is fantastic... the record does play a tad soft (this is to handle the dynamic shifts in the music with minimal compression used). Since it's mastered a bit lower on average, there's a touch more hiss/rumble in the quiet parts between songs - but there's an awesome amount of clarity, dynamics and detail in this pressing.
I've tried both of them. I'm really into the Devialet version, it's got way more punch and detail! Plus, this is the original release. The Resonance one came out later.
