The ninth studio album from Scottish Indie band Travis can be summed up in one word: "Haunting". After taking a long break from writing since their 2016 album 'Everything At Once', the band made a comeback in late 2019 with the hauntingly beautiful 'Kissing In The Wind' (which was featured in their documentary 'Almost Fashionable'), and it was a triumphant return. While 'Everything At Once' had heavily incorporated popular pop elements from the 2010's, this release saw a revival of the band's signature contemporary sound. With 2020 providing an opportunity to experiment while in lockdown, it was a refreshing change. It became evident that a new sound was on the horizon when the album's second single 'A Ghost' was released. The creation of '10 Songs' presented some challenges, but Travis embraced the task wholeheartedly and consistently released new songs in the lead-up to the album's launch. This meant that by the time '10 Songs' was released, over half of it had already been shared with the world. However, with iconic tracks like the blues-infused 'Valentine' and the stunning ballad 'The Only Thing' (featuring vocals from The Bangles' Susanna Hoffs), it didn't matter. Much like Gorillaz's 'Song Machine Season One' (also released in 2020), the album became a poignant reflection of the isolation and vulnerability experienced by humanity in 2020, transforming from a standard album into a comforting companion piece for the year. This limited edition set deviates from the band's previous two releases by replacing the usual 'Making Of' DVD with a CD containing full album demos, many of which feature only singer/songwriter Fran, offering a charming sneak peek into the creation of '10 Songs'. Both beautiful and imperfect, this addition turns the album into intimate reflections that are sure to delight many fans. Completed with a set of art cards and, for some, a signed booklet, this concise yet delightful album from a band entering its fourth decade proves that even as the world stood still, Travis continued to create.
I'm loving my purchase, it's so quiet, no issues at all!
Received my copy the day before. Began playing it and it's sounding great so far. No warping to report and it's quite quiet, even without giving it a initial clean, which I normally do. If you're checking this out, you're probably familiar with Travis. I'm a huge fan of this band and this album is fantastic. They're one of those bands that always put me in a awesome mood, and this album is no exception.
