Wow, the Tobias Gremmler videos have movie-like files. So incredibly detailed!
Heads up: it's just a regular black vinyl pressed in the UK. NOT from Japan. The only "Japanese" thing about it is the obi with Japanese words on it. That's all there is to it. Don't pay high prices for it, it's not worth it.
The packaging, art, and peach-colored vinyl are all fantastic; you could display it anywhere in your home and it would look absolutely stunning. I highly recommend owning this vinyl in its limited edition color. As for the music, the album isn't her best work, but it's certainly not her worst either. It's not an easy listen; even as a long-time fan, getting into Utopia was quite a challenge. There are a lot of experiments with flutes, choirs, bird sounds, and beats, with very few harmonies or melodies, and the singing is rather traditional. Arca's strong influence can be felt throughout: his contributions might not appeal to everyone, and this new collaborator in Björk's life isn't as original or revolutionary as Mark Bell was in the past. That said, the album is still above average compared to many other artists, and for all Björk fans, it's a must-have. For those new to Björk, I'd suggest starting with Homogenic or Post instead. Some standout tracks include Blissing Me, The Gate, Saint, Losss, and Body Memory.
picture me stumbling upon this in the stock of a tiny, local record shop tucked in a basement... i basically battled for this vinyl, it being my all-time favorite album and the pressing i've been yearning for ages... it's just mind-blowing, the overall artistry makes me emotional... my apologies for being truthful. the audio is fantastic, crisp and oh boy, that's all... the only downside to all vinyl releases, for me and probably everyone, is the jumbled track order, i've grown accustomed to it, it's like a slightly reimagined take on the album... but still, i'd love to see perhaps... a 3 LP 45 rpm version of the album, with the original tracklist and maybe arpeggio as an extra track... it'd be awesome if the vinyl was crystal clear with clean, etched labels... i'm getting ahead of myself.
While not her absolute finest, Björk's "Utopia" holds a special spot in her musical collection. Graceful and playful, the album invites listeners into a wonderful adventure through her realm of avian melodies, botanical beats, and countless flutes. You can truly sense her growth here, a far cry from her '90s dance and trip-hop art-pop days, evolving into something indescribable. "Utopia" feels like a conclusion to an era, perhaps marking the end of her divorce turmoil or even her retirement. Alternatively, it might be a prelude to something extraordinary in the future, or a gentle fade into the embrace of nature. If this were her swan song, I'd be content.
