I'm not sure if this box set is a must-have nowadays, but in my opinion, it's absolutely brilliant. The original recording was transferred to a basic cassette tape using a 4-track tape recorder and echo chamber, then pressed onto vinyl back in the day. Even now, this reissue boasts a fantastic sound that takes us to a timeless realm. The subtle hiss of the magnetic tape adds an unmatched charm (what a unique and amazing concept). Sure, there are multiple versions out there, and it's up to each individual to find their favorite. The photos of ‘The Boss’ are outstanding, and the box set is top-notch. Anti-magnetic or lined sleeves would have been a nice addition. The sound is outstanding and surprising, considering the history of this recording! TOP! I'd also mention that all the vinyl records are of extremely high quality and well worth the listen. It's tough to pick the best version, but I'd say it depends on your mood and how you're feeling. The new master is clean without losing the original qualities that give it its character. Thorens TD124 Stylus Nagaoka MP200, Phase Linear 400/ 3500, Speakers JBL L220
soundwise, absolutely perfect. picked this up on a whim, not really a Bruce fan, just 'cuz it got so much praise. but now i get it — “🤷🏻♂️” it's alright, not mind-blowing. but hey, this record's got no flaws at all. 5/5.
Absolutely amazing! I've encountered some really bad MPO pressings, but this one is among the quietest I've listened to in ages.
This is an awesome release. Sure, the original album still doesn't sound top-notch, but its rawness and the songwriting are just as thrilling today as they were when I first listened to it. ‘Electric Nebraska’ offers a fascinating glimpse into a band attempting to interpret and record those songs, and while they're solid versions, they miss the atmosphere of the original demos that became the final album. However, the most thrilling part is the heavy guitar-driven version of ‘Born in The USA’. It's intriguing to imagine how it could have sounded. The outtakes also shed some light on the development of some of Springsteen’s biggest hits. Still haven't watched the Blu-Ray, but I'm confident I won't be let down.
Absolutely amazing. This is a fantastic document showcasing the journey of a Performer evolving into an Artist. You can hear him as he experiments with various ways to bring his songs to life. 'I'm struggling to nail the rock sound with the band. How can I convey the music's message? Maybe I should just release the original demos. It doesn't get any better than that.' Then he follows up with an incredibly rocking version of Born in the USA. The Artist sits alone in a room with his guitar, recording his thoughts. The Performer electrifies a stadium with his band. It's a shame it took Columbia so long to compile this, but it's a truly wonderful collection.
